Moringa oleifera Ice Cream

Moringa Oleifera is a plant widely cultivated in Africa, Central and South America, Sri Lanka, India, Mexico, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. In the Philippines we call it Malunggay. It is considered one of the world’s most useful trees because all parts of the tree can be used for food or medicine.

Malunggay is the best source of beta-carotene, Vitamin C, protein, iron and potassium. Some people make it as ice cream. Vegetarians eat malunggay ice cream as their dessert or snack. For children who don’t eat vegetables, this type of ice cream is best for them. Many vegetarian restaurants offer ice creams made from vegetables. Example, in vegetarian restaurants San Diego, they offer delicious and nutritious ice cream perfect for vegetarians and vegans.

  1. My garden club planted moringa seeds using various methods to get them started as our information indicated that they were tricky to germinate but we found the best way to grow them in our climate is to scratch a hole in the clay about an inch deep, drop the seed in and water it then stand back and watch it grow. We also grew some in pots and sold them at a plant sale and did very well with them but I'm surprised to hear that you can keep them for an extended period in pots due to their significant tap root.
